The Alpine Adventure Retreat is set in the spectacular Hohe Tauern National Park in South Tyrol, Austria. Perfect for those new to mountain adventures or those looking for a mix of challenge and relaxation, this retreat combines daily outdoor excursions with the comfort of a luxurious base.

Complete with wood fired hot tub, a yoga studio with a panoramic window looking out onto the mountains and a warm and cosy communal area, it is the perfect base to begin our mountain adventures from.

Summer retreats will include daily hikes on stunning trails, incredible ridge lines and summits with views to die for plus a day exploring a local via ferrata, an exhilarating introduction to climbing using fixed ladders and cables to ascend rock in the mountains. If you choose a winter programme we'll replace hiking boots with snow shoes and will spend one day on the nearby glacier where you'll have the chance to use crampons and ice axes in an introduction to winter mountaineering skills.

Before

Planning and preparation

In the weeks before your retreat we'll host a series of online sessions where we'll guide you through everything you need to know and do to ensure you feel confident and excited when you arrive in the mountains. This will include practical things like what to bring and address concerns like 'am I fit enough' or 'what if I'm last'.

You’ll also have access to a range of resources, including training plans and how-to guides, to support your preparation.

Adventure Retreat

You'll spend the week at the stunning Moalm Mountain Lodge with your Programme Leader, qualified Guide and the other women on the retreat (max 12). Each day will bring new adventures in the mountains, optional yoga session, an evening briefing about the next day and delicious, nutritious meals.

We will be walking and working together as a group but there will be down time for yourself too.

Practical Information

  • Food
Food plays a big role in our retreats not only to make sure you are well fuelled for your days in the mountains but also as an essential way to unwind, share stories and refresh after an adventure. All meals are 100% plant based and gluten free and everything is prepared daily, on-site.
  • Dates
All Adventure Retreat dates are set in advance, just choose the programme with the retreat dates that you would like. Once you've signed up and all places (or the majority) have been filled, specific times and days for the group sessions and one-to-one sessions will be set together.
  • Travel
The retreat is based just outside Grasmere. Details of the location will be provided when you sign up but the retreat base is easily accessible car, with ample parking. For those travelling by public transport there are trains as far as Windermere from where a regular bus service runs to Grasmere. Transfers from Windermere can be arranged.
  • Fitness & Readiness
We know that one of the most common reasons women cite for not signing up to active holidays, courses and retreats is the concern that they may not be fit enough. This is precisely why we have designed our programmes to include planning & preparation time so we can support you in 'getting ready' for your adventure retreat. This won't be an intense training regime, but we will share guidance, advice and tips on how to prepare physically. By the time you arrive you will need to be able to spend 4-6 hours moving at a gentle pace (this means comfortably being able to hold a conversation) carrying a backpack. If you are very inactive now and wondering if there will be enough time to get ready, why not get in touch and we can have a chat and see if this is the right programme at the right time.
  • Accommodation
The retreat will be based in a beautiful house on the shore of Coniston Water right in the heart of the National Park. You will have a private double room with en-suite bathroom. The house is equipped with a large social dining and living area where we will spend much of our evening time and there is also a secondary 'snug' for down time. Yoga sessions will take place in the studio adjacent to the main house.
  • Planning & Preparation
You've signed up for a week in the mountains, you're excited and raring to go, but you're thinking what do I take? What will it be like? Am I ready? Am I fit enough? Can I actually do this?! Don't worry, this is exactly why we start preparing with you and with your group in the weeks before you arrive in the mountains. In this time we will go through clothing and kit, making sure you know what to bring and why. We'll talk about fitness (see a dedicated section below on this), the types of activity we'll be doing, the weather and anything else on your mind so by the time you arrive, you feel really ready to enjoy your adventure. In this time we will also begin to discuss the specific challenges of leadership and work together as a group to begin thinking about the work we will be doing in relation to those challenges through the retreat.
  • Schedule
Each day will include an hour of guided yoga, 4-6 hours hiking (or other activity), a facilitated group session for reflection and discussion (these will have daily themes prepared in advance), a group planning & preparation session, dedicated meal time and some private time for relaxation. The precise order of events may vary depending on the planned activity for the day, this will always be discussed the day before.
  • Coaching
Coaching is offered after your retreat to help you work towards a personal or professional goal. You can read more about what coaching is and how it works on our About page.
