Welcome to Women Move Mountains

At Women Move Mountains we take you on guided adventures into beautiful mountain environments, exploring iconic routes and moving off the beaten track.   But we don’t just show you the way, we help you build skills, strength and confidence through real adventures.  Think big landscapes, mountain trails, changing weather, shared challenges, laughter, views that stop you in your tracks and that feeling of doing something you weren’t quite sure you could do.  Whether it’s your first time hiking in the mountains or your next big challenge, you'll find our adventures are exciting, supportive and really memorable.

What makes us different?

Real Adventures

We don’t approach the mountains in search of adrenaline or ego. The mountains are serious environments, and we treat them that way. That respect is what makes real adventure possible.

Quality of experience

We don’t rush through the mountains or race to the summit. We take our time to enjoy the adventure, play with the terrain and gave a good time.

Small groups

Groups are kept small so you get proper attention, support and guidance throughout and so we can move together, working as a team. No-one gets left behind.

Expert guidance

You’re not left to 'just follow.' We guide in a way that helps you understand terrain, movement, decision-making and how to read the mountains for yourself.

Support beyond the day

Your experience doesn’t have to end when the adventure finishes. You’ll have access to optional coaching and onward adventure suggestions so you can build adventure into your life.

5–10km | 3–5 hours | Low level terrain | 200-300m ascent

Foundational mountain experiences designed to help you feel at ease in the outdoors and start building confidence in real terrain.  We spend a bit of time indoors talking all things clothes, kit, weather, maps and apps. Then we head into the hills where we start to put it into practice on gentle but varied  terrain.

You’ll start to:

• Move confidently on a variety of terrain

• Read the ground beneath your feet

• Understand how your body responds to walking and ascent

• Plan and prepare for a day in the mountains

10-15km | 5-7 hours | Mid level terrain | 500-1000m ascent

These are full mountain days where we  to step into more committing environments while still keeping options flexible and supportive. We meet at an agreed location and after a short briefing head  into the fells.

Terrain may include:

  • higher ground and more exposure

  • optional scrambly sections (always avoidable)

  • varied ascent and descent

  • more (supported) decision-making in real time

15-20km | approx 8 hours | High level terrain | 800-1200m ascent

These are more demanding mountain experiences in bigger terrain with greater elevation, exposure and physical challenge.  Distance covered can be significant, taking in multiple high summits, or much shorter but on more technical, challenging terrain. Good hill walking expereince is required.

Terrain may include:

  • ridges and exposed mountain routes (conditions dependent)

  • full day mountain circuits

  • significant ascent/descent

  • sustained movement in changing conditions

4 nights | 3 guided hikes | Comfortable accommodation

Our retreats combine several days of adventure into one immersive experience, giving you the chance to build skills, confidence and experience in quick succession.  Instead of dipping your toe into something new for a day, you'll have the time to settle in, challenge yourself, learn from each experience and put new skills into practice as you go.

You'll experience:

  • A series of guided mountain adventures that build progressively throughout the retreat

  • More time to develop skills, confidence and judgement in real mountain environments

  • Support and guidance tailored to your individual goals and experience level

  • Shared adventure and connection with a small group of like-minded women

A note about routes and destinations

At Women Move Mountains we don't don’t advertise fixed bucket list routes in advance.  Instead we list our adventures by the location that we'll meet, like Grasmere, Ennerdale or Glenridding for example.  That’s because real adventures depend on weather, conditions and what will create the safest and best day in the mountains and the last thing we want to do is make promises we can't keep or put people in danger.  If conditions allow, you may well find yourself on some of the most iconic mountain terrain in the UK!  If not, you’ll still have a super fun, rich, rewarding and properly led adventure in the best possible location for that day and the good news there is, it's all stunning.
